Palouse Economic Development Council changes its name to: SouthEast Washington Economic Development Association

Clarkston, WA – The Palouse Economic Development Council, which has served the four southeastern counties of Washington State since 1985, has changed its name and launched a new logo. SouthEast Washington Economic Development Association (SEWEDA) became the official name filed with the Washington Secretary of State on September 2, 2008 . Area businesses and communities will continue to receive the same valuable service and support.

With this change, a new web site (www.seweda.org) is currently being developed with plans to launch near the end of the year. In the meantime, the organization will continue to provide information and resources through its existing web site, www.palouse.org.

The primary reason for the name change is the confusion created by the word “Palouse”, which is often associated with just the Moscow-Pullman area. The offices in Dayton (Columbia County) and Pomeroy (Garfield County), as well as the home office in Clarkston (Asotin County), have seemed to be geographically excluded by the name. SouthEast Washington is clearly representative of all four counties, and the name serves a more global purpose as well, particularly for site selectors.

SEWEDA provides economic development services and resources for Asotin, Columbia, Garfield, and Whitman counties. The organization’s goals include capacity building, workforce development, affordable housing, community development and infrastructure, business development, and tourism. SEWEDA will also continue to manage the activities of the Palouse Regional Transportation Planning Organization, which covers the same four counties.
